Deep Blue’s fairyland of exotic creatures voted best waterside hotel in South America

The luxury hotel Deep Blue, on Colombia’s remote island of Providencia, has it all when it comes to viewing the waterside wonders of the world.

Which is why it has been recognised as the best waterside hotel in Central and South America at the annual Conde Naste Johansens Awards for Excellence.

It has some unique credentials to help it on its way. For example,  in front of the hotel is the centrepiece of Colombia’s most exotic marine National Park: Crab Caye.

In front of Deep Blue is the centrepiece of Colombia’s most exotic marine National Park: Crab Caye.

This tiny idyllic caye is home to a vast array of sealife and forms the focal point of a conservation area that acts as a nursery for much of the marine fauna in the Western Caribbean.

“When waking up early and sitting on our hotel balconies you can watch the sunrise behind Crab Caye and sometimes see manta rays leaping from the sea just 20 metres offshore,” says owner Chris Hardyment.

“Their belly flop sound is quite distinctive as it carries a long way and pierces what would otherwise be the total silence of a flat, dead calm Caribbean Sea. The mantas only jump if it is dawn and if the sea is completely calm.”

Chris adds: “There’s a reef just 30 metres from our hotel where just about anything and everything has been spotted by our guests: manta rays, turtles, dolphinfish, even big game fish.

“Right in front of the hotel, you might see any of them with a goggle and snorkel and a bit of luck.

“Our reefs are like an underwater fairyland of exotic creatures, there’s nowhere else like it in Colombia.”

Deep Blue’s clients regularly cite the incredible sea views and the friendly hospitality of the proud local staff as the most exceptional features of the hotel.

Deluxe double rooms are priced from approximately USD $200 for two people including breakfast, while the top category luxury suites have private infinity plunge pools with exceptional sea views and are priced from approximately USD $300 per night.
