The site of Mayfair’s oldest house, known as The Cottage, dates to 1618 and was once home to a shepherd tending his flock.
Four hundred years later, on the very same site, stands Mayfair’s newest hotel, The Shepherd Mayfair – an 82-room boutique establishment shaped by the history and social character of one of London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.
Opening earlier this month, it brings together individually configured rooms and suites, a collection of British art and tailored wellness and lifestyle partnerships.
The hotel takes its name from Edward Shepherd, reflecting its connection to the neighbourhood he created.

The surrounding fields later hosted the annual May Fair before architect and developer Edward Shepherd transformed the area into the intimate quarter that still bears his name.
The Shepherd Mayfair draws this history into a contemporary interpretation of Mayfair’s historic mansions, pairing the refinement of a private residence with the independent spirit of the area.
The hotel, at 2 Stanhope Row, spans 33,600 square feet across six floors. It is moments from Green Park, Bond Street and Mayfair’s galleries, boutiques and restaurants.
Dining destinations Fayre and The Lounge are already open, while Teddy’s, the hotel’s late-night cocktail bar, will follow in November.
The Shepherd Mayfair has 70 rooms and 12 suites, each configured around the proportions of the original mansion layouts.
Categories range from standard and superior rooms to the larger Shepherd Suites and Mayfair Suites, with many rooms incorporating window seats overlooking Shepherd Market and Mayfair.
Marble bathrooms feature bespoke Floris London amenities, with selected rooms offering bathtubs and separate seating areas.
Rooms are available from £500 per night.
