Hotel Banke … from jewel safe house to a Parisian gem in its own right

Its mighty vaults kept safe the jewels of the rich and famous throughout the 20th century, but now the former Paris headquarters of Crédit Commercial de France has taken on a new identity to become a gem in its own right.

The iconic Hotel Banke, owned by Derby Hotels Collection, is the first property in Paris and the fourth in France to join Marriott International’s unique portfolio of one-of-a-kind properties around the world that champion Autograph Collection Hotels’ values of vision, design and craft.

Located in the heart of the Parisian Opera district, it is moments from Galeries Lafayette, the city’s most exclusive shopping centre, and less than one mile away from the Louvre Museum.

Hotel Banke’s elegant façade dominates the corner of Rue La Fayette and Rue Pillet, harking back to the French Belle Époque period.

The original features of its 91 guest rooms and suites seamlessly blend with contemporary design touches, such as statement modern furniture and rich soft furnishings.

Every room has been meticulously designed to create a tranquil escape from the bustling streets of Paris.

A bespoke collection of jewellery and art is displayed throughout the hotel, sourced from various corners of the world; a nod to the building’s history as safe keeper of luxury items.

Says John Licence, a Marriott International vice president: “We are delighted to expand our offering of one-of-a-kind hotels to Paris with Hotel Banke.

“With its unique heritage as a former bank headquarters, and stunning design, it perfectly embodies Autograph Collection Hotel’s independent spirit.”

The Josefin restaurant offers a subtle blend of signature French dishes with Indochinese touches. And as cocktail hour strikes, look no further than LeBar for selection of the finest French cognacs, an extensive list of wines, champagnes, local beers and gin and tonic signature cocktails.

Finally, the hotel’s largest space, Salle des Coffres, offers the rare opportunity to view more than 460 of the former Crédit Commercial de France’s hidden vaults, many of which still belong to some of the Paris’s best-known historical figures such as Gustave Eiffel, the civil engineer and architect of the Eiffel Tower.
