Kandima Maldives turns off the lights to support Earth Hour movement and shed light on climate change

The 266-room beach resort Kandima Maldives will join millions around the world in turning off lights for one hour on Saturday (30 March) at 20:30 local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness.

The theme of the 2019 Earth Hour celebration focuses on climate change, global warming and the reduction of plastic waste in the world oceans.

Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative in partnership with WWF. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour to show their support for environmentally sustainable action.

As accelerating climate change and staggering biodiversity loss threaten our planet, Earth Hour 2018-2020 endeavours to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent need to protect it.

Kandima Maldives is participating by organising

  • Beach Cleaning with Aquaholics Dive & Water Sports Centre
  • Barefoot BBQ Under the Stars, during which most of the lights will be switched off at the island’s public spaces.
  • Marine Biology presentation by the resort’s resident marine biologist

The resort will also hold a Glow-in-the dark Party at its famous Breeze Pool Bar featuring Earth Hour inspired cocktails and tailored entertainment.

“It’s a privilege for us to support such a powerful movement with such a simple gesture,” said general manager Brett Castleman.

“Earth Hour reflects a philosophy we try to practice year-round that we all must do our part and together we can make a big difference. Climate change affects everyone, and it also has an impact on the continued success of our business.”

Kandima Maldives is a lifestyle destination with an authentic Maldivian soul, offering genuine hospitality with a human touch and innovative solutions that make use of the latest technology.

Under the new hospitality group Pulse Hotels & Resorts, the resort caters for guests of all ages, offering relaxation, both aquatic and island adventures, wellbeing, fitness or just family time.
